General Conference is right around the corner and one of my favorite things to do after General Conference is to review what we heard. I learn more when I actually sit down and read each talk. And one thing we talked about in our ebook, Growing up with Conference was ways to "Live it." There was also a section called, "Learn" and "Listen."
One inspiration we have had to teach the gospel in our homes is to make general conference exciting. First we have the family LEARN to prepare for conference through family home evening lessons, temple attendance and seeking personal revelation. Next, we provide creative activities and fun snacks as we LISTEN to our living prophets. Finally, we encourage our families to LIVE those things we have heard through our daily actions by studying the words spoken and hastening the Lord’s work.

Today, I wanted to share a Family Home Evening lesson found in our ebook, Growing up with Conference to give you an idea of what is found in our "Live it" section.
FHE: Favorite Talk
Purpose: To teach your family to use the general conference talks as part of their personal scripture study.

Opening Prayer:
Scripture: Article of Faith 1:9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
Lesson: Where can we find the words of our living prophets? Their words come to us through general conference and later printed in the Liahona or Ensign magazines. We can use the conference talks for scripture study.
ASK: Why is it important to study the words of the living prophets?
Scripture: D&C 1:38: What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.
Story: A few years ago, Tiffany wanted to take some time to study the General Conference talks but also wanted to study her scriptures. With young kids she didn’t have a lot of extra time to do both. Knowing that the scriptures and the living prophet’s words are both important, she decided to combine the two!
As she read the conference talks, she highlighted the inspired words that she personally needed to improve on. She then studied the scriptures referenced at the end of the talks. She noticed some talks were also important for her family to review and act upon. She wrote FHE at the top of the talks that applied to their home. Then they would use these talks to review with the family at family home evening or scripture study.
As she combined the scriptures with the talks, she really felt the spirit revealing inspiration to concerns in the home. Through the six months, Tiffany felt like she received answers to prayers more often by participating in this type of study. She wasn’t just reading a few versus or casually skimming the talks…she was sincerely studying to learn and grow!
Below are ideas to review general conference talks and truly LIVE what we learn:
Optional activity 1: Assign each member of the family a conference talk to read and summarize for the following family home evening lesson or scripture study.
Optional activity 2: Read the conference talks and use a ponder pad to take notes on impressions that come into your mind. During the week, review the impressions written on the ponder pad and decide what you could improve on.

I walked into Rebecca’s room and found her highlighting a conference talk from the Ensign. She told me that she felt like everything she read was important so she highlighted the entire talk to read to the family the next morning at scripture study. - Tiffany
