General Conference Study Schedule Week 15: A Sin-Resistant Generationby Joy D. Jones

So, I've been a little busy with birthdays (May-July) so I've been slacking in the blog post department. But, I'm back on track. Today, I posted President Monson's talk plus one quote for you to print. And now I'm going to share my thoughts on Joy D. Jones talk titled, A Sin-Resistant Generation.

I feel like the talks go well together. We learned from President Monson how we need to obtain and keep a testimony of the Book of Mormon everyday to fight against the adversary. And now we will be discussing how we can teach our children to help them be valiant and sin-resistant. In this study schedule you will find two free printables. Enjoy!

 Quote #1 (pdf)

Question: What does a resilient, steadfast and immovable child look like? And how can we teach them to strive to live pure and obedient lives?

First: They understand their divine identity.

Second: They feel Heavenly Father's love for them.

Third: They seek to obey His will.

Question: What do children look like who struggle to stand "steadfast and immovable?"

First: They are being attacked by all sides by "the fiery darts of the adversary."

Second: They are in need of reinforcement and support.

Third: They are an overwhelming motivation for us to step up and wage a war against sin.

Joy continues by saying, "We are in battle with the adversary. The battle touches us all, and our children are on the front lines facing the opposing forces."

Yikes! We must strengthen our spiritual strategies.

How do we do that?

The Lord instructed parents to teach their children...

1-Understand the doctrine of repentance, faith in Christ the Son of the living God, and of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost.

2-Pray.

3-Walk uprightly before the Lord.

Question: What are the universal guidelines set by our Heavenly Father?

 Guidelines (pdf)

1-Have a vision of the importance of this essential responsibility.

We need to understand our own divine identity and purpose before we can help our children see who they are and why they are here. Help them know they are sons and daughters of a loving Heavenly Father and that He has divine expectations of them.

2-Understand the doctrine of repentance-Be repentant, vigilant and valiant.

Every day of our lives needs courage. We must wear our spiritual armor. Start early and be steady

3-Begin at very early ages to infuse them with basic gospel doctrines and principles.

Read the scriptures together

Study and memorize the Articles of Faith

Read the Strength of Youth booklet

Listen to primary songs and hymns

Lead them to the Savior

Create consistent habits of prayer, scripture study, family home evening, and Sabbath worship

Question: How do we prepare our children to make and keep sacred covenants as they enter and progress along the covenant path?

A succession of small, successfully kept promises leads to integrity. The consistent practice of promise keeping is spiritual preparation for children to receive their first covenant of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost, wherein they covenant to serve God and keep His commandments.

Hold your little ones close so they see your daily religious behavior and watch you keeping your promises and covenants.

Give them something great to imitate.

Testimony:

Jesus Christ leads this Church. As you teach, lead, and love children in the Savior’s way, you can receive personal revelation that will aid you in creating and arming valiant, sin-resistant children.  I testify that our Savior atoned for the sins of the world—because He said He would—and that He loves us more than we mere mortals can even comprehend—because He said He would.
